On Beetle models up to 1966, the inside of the trunk lock was protected at the factory to prevent dirt and other objects from adhering to it, which could interfere with the lock's operation.
After the model change in 1967, the lock was moved from the outside of the front panel to the inside, so that the cover was no longer necessary, as the sheet metal of the front panel now provided protection.
On many VW Beetles produced up to 7.1967, this protective cover has become missing, lost or badly rusted over the years. Please ensure that the locking system is well protected by this black powder-coated protective cap, identical to the original.
