If the oil pressure light comes on regularly at idle, it is quite possible that the oil pump is worn out, in which case measure the oil pressure.
The following information applies to gasoline engines only:
The oil pressure should be measured at an oil temperature of 70 degrees and an engine speed of 2500 rpm. The measured pressure must now be at least 2 bar. The gear clearance should not exceed 0.2 mm and the oil pump cover should not show deep gear wear (there should be no more than 0.1 mm of clearance between the oil pump cover and the gears). Wear on the end of the drive pinion is always noticeable, but it should not be too great either. When disassembling the oil pump, it is advisable to first remove the threaded ends and then use an oil pump puller to pull the pump out of the housing effortlessly and without damage. All oil pumps are supplied without oil pump cover and nuts, always take these items with you. No cover is available for oil pumps until 1967, have your existing cover flattened, after which it can be reassembled.
The following information applies to diesel engines only:
The oil pump on a diesel engine is accessible after removing the crankcase. The oil pressure must be measured at an oil temperature of 80 degrees and an engine speed of 2000 rpm. The measured pressure should now be at least 2 bar. The gap between the gears must not be greater than 0.2 mm and the gap between the edge of the housing and the gears must not be greater than 0.15 mm. Wear at the end of the drive pinion is always noticeable, but it should not be too great. The oil pump is supplied as a complete part but without the track seal, please take this extra (see options tab).
