This stop rubber is mounted in the spring plate and is intended to limit the spring travel in case of deep rebound. Without this rubber, the shock absorber could hit the spring plate with a blow, which is not beneficial to the shock absorber and the complete strut.
The stop rubber also holds the cover of the shock absorber, allowing it to perform two functions.
When replacing shock absorbers it is advisable to replace this rubber immediately, in most cases the existing rubber is torn off or partially digested.
Caution : Keep in mind that you only replace the rubber: on cars up to 7.1973 the steel conical bush often remains in the old rubber when disassembling, don't forget to transfer it!
