To ensure correct adjustment of the headlamp beam, the adjustment mechanism must be free from defects.
In the third generation of Volkswagen Buses, the Vanagon, the brackets in which the adjustment bolts are turned are made of plastic. The combination of rusty adjustment bolts turning in plastic brackets can cause the assembly to jam, causing the plastic brackets to break during adjustment.
Replacement is the only way to repair this.
